Planet CNC Stepper Driver - Microsteps issue

Postby ciutateivissa » 16 Aug 2016, 09:39

Hi,

I´m running following Planet CNC components since about 3 years:

3x Motor Driver (2,5 A) / 1/2 microsteps
Mk 2/4 Controller (USB)

Now I changed my CNC hardware to something bigger, but kept the controller stuff, including the stepper Motors (1.8°, 2,0 A).

In my new setup I use trapezoidal screws (12mm) with a pitch of 6 mm. So I wanted to change the micro steps to 1/4 to have a propper resolution for the machine. The new calcultion would be: 200 x 4 = 800 / 6 = 133,3334.

So I changed the dip Switches directly on the Motor Driver board and entered the new values into the software.
The result was, that the travel distance of the machine was doubled - insted of 10mm, the machine now goes 20mm!

It seems, that the Motor Driver still works with 1/2 and didn´t accept the new dip switch setting.

Any ideas?

Are you sure that the DIP switch combination is correct? Can you post any pictures of the DIP switch when being configured to 1/4?

Pitch of screw is indeed 6mm?

Hi,

the lead srew (trapezoidal) should have a pitch of 6 mm - at least that was written in the (german) specification:

Präzisions-Trapezgewindespindel RPTS TR 12X6-P3 C35 rechts 100cm mit besonders hoher Steigungsgenauigkeit.
Technische Daten:
Länge (L): 1m
Gewinde: 12x6 P3 rechts, zweigängig, gerollt. nach ISO 2901/2903 und DIN 103
Steigung (P): 6mm
Durchmesser (D): 12mm
Gewindequalität: 7e
Kleinstmaß Flankendurchmesser (D1): 10,191mm
Größtmaß Flankendurchmesser (D1): 10,415mm
Kerndurchmesser (D2): 7,84mm
Steigungswinkel: 10°30´
Steigungsgenauigkeit auf 300mm: 300µm

I´ve attached a picture of the dip switches.

Hi,

finally solved the problem myself:

I asumed, that the Position "ON" would be "H" (high) - but that was wrong!
Actually the "ON" Position is "L" (low)! The letters L and H are on the left besides the dip switches, not easy to find ;-)

One could question now WHY the "ON" Position is used as low, but...

However, it works now.
