Drift Correction with G10 L9

Drift Correction with G10 L9

Postby bstrahm » 21 Oct 2016, 22:05

I am running parts in a jig one at a time. I have the machine move in the X-direction 8 inches to get it out of the way so that I can unload the part and load a new one. I am experience drift in the X-direction of about 0.001 for each part. I'm thinking that I should be able to use G10 L9 to correct for this. The g-code is simple:

(BEGIN NC HEADER)
%
N01 G20 G40 G49 G80 G90 G91.1
N02 M07
N03 M08
N04 M03
N05 G00 Z1.25
(FINISH EDGE)
N06 S24000
N07 G00 X3.25 Y-.75
N08 G01 Z-.01 F50
N09 G01 X3.25 Y0 F50
N10 G03 X3.25 Y0 I-3.25 J0
N12 G01 X3.25 Y.75
N13 G00 Z1.25
N14 G00 X8.000 Y0
N15 M05
N16 M09
G10 L9 X8.001
(END OF PROGRAM)
N18 M30
%

When I run this, I think that the X location (workpiece coordinates) should read 8.001 (or as close as it can get in even steps). However, it reads whatever I last typed into the X location. So, for example, if I discover that it is off by 0.010 in and I type 8.010 into the x-position box, the next time I run the program above, the box will say 8.010 in it, rather than 8.001 like I think the code should make it work.

I've discovered (and I think confirmed), though that the machine coordinates are changed to what is in the code (X8.001).

So my questions are:
1. Are my expectations for what should be happening incorrect?
2. If so, is there a way to make the correction I want to make?
3. Why does it repeat whatever I last typed into the x-position box?

Thanks.

An update to this problem that may be helpful to someone else, or that may prompt something that would be helpful to me...

We had to change out the PC on this system and now we no longer have the drift issue. So, it seems that it might be related to the USB communication on the computer we were using.

Any thoughts?
