Mk3 PWM connection with Spindle motor

Hi,

I'm new here in the CNC community and I just bought a Mk3/4 controller with enclosure and accessories kit. I have a HX-WS400 BLDC motor driver (attachment) and Spindle motor (with 48V power supply).

Now I want to control the speed of this spindle motor with my Mk3/4 controller. I've search around here on the forum but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

If I understand it right I can connect the "PWM", "EN", and "F/R" connections from the motor driver card to the output pins (6,2,1) on the Mk3 controller and then I should be able to control the speed with PWM signals and on/off in the software? Do I need to connect a common ground as well?
Am I correct here or am I missing something? Do I need an output board, or connect something through the optocoupler? I haven't tried anything yet, I wanted to ask you experts first :D

Yes connect also GND from controller. Set speed output as PWM and other as M3 ON/OFF(this one would probably be connected to EN terminal).

I haven't had time to test it yet, but I was wondering about the output board. Why do I not need to connect it via the output board? According to the https://planet-cnc.com/using-output-board-planetcnc-controllers/ I should connect the spindle motor controller through the output board.

Could connecting the spindle motor controller directly to the mk3/4 output pins be harfull, since there is no relays or such?

Please check the motor controller voltage levels of control inputs.

The voltage level of the control inputs are 5V.

Wiring instructions:

Function Description:
Speed mode:
1. The default speed potentiometer, can be directly through the rotary potentiometer speed

2. Analog control, VR pin is connected to a voltage signal input terminal, GND pin to ground (voltage range 0-5V) (NOTE external voltage signal control necessary to remove the potentiometer control to take effect, whether the person can not control)

3. You can use an external PWM signal input speed control, external PWM input requirements: level 3.5-12V VPP, frequency 1K-10KHZ, suitable for MACH3 spindle speed control, (note the external PWM signal control necessary to remove the potentiometer control It takes effect, whether the person can not control).

Motor Run / stop control (EN):
Control terminal EN relatively GND-off can control the motor to stop and run. EN pin is floating the motor is running, when the GND terminal is connected motor stops.

Motor forward / reverse control (F / R):
Control F / R and + 5V-off operation can be controlled direction. When the F / R and + 5V is not connected, the motor is running counter clockwise, otherwise the motor running in a clockwise direction

This is probably a really basic question, but I'm really new to this and I'm trying to learn it all from scratch.
So, I went a head and bought the output board and wired it as follows:
Output board - Mk 3/4
“S” – OUTPUT6
“0” – GND
“1” – OUTPUT1
“2” – OUTPUT2
“3” – not connected

Power:
"12V" - 12V+ from power supply
"GND" - V- from power supply

From the VFD (Spindle motor controller) I connected:
"Enable" - 1
"Fr" - 2
"Gnd" - GND

So far so good, but now I am confused about how I will control the spindle speed.
As I posted above, I have both a "PWM" connection from the spindle controller board (3.5V 0-10kHz) and a "VR" speed control signal input terminal (0-5V).

How should I connect the Spindle motor controller in the best way?

1. Connect PWM from spindle controller directly to MK3/4 output pin and generate a 0-10kHz signal from software.

or

2. Connect 0-10V out from output board to VR on spindle controller (and limit the output to 5V using the calibration? What do I set the frequency to in the software, what range does the output board use?
