4. Axis (rotation-axis) Setup

4. Axis (rotation-axis) Setup

Postby Deltaflyer » 21 Dec 2015, 18:04

Dear Planet CNC Team
I bought a 4th axis, the axis of rotation with the following data:

1/16 Step Mode: 172,800 steps / revolution ..... 480 Steps / ° .... Step 8 = 1min ...... 1Step = 7,5sek. 1 Limit switch

Machine is a milling machine with 1 X-axis, Y 1 axis, Z-axis 1
Plus now the rotary axis as an A-axis.
Question 1: What should I set with machine type?
Question 2: What should I set per Unit for axes / Step?
Question 3: What should I set with limit and soft limit?
Question 4: What else do I need to adjust so that the 4th axis is working correctly?

Thank you and Merry Christmas
Stefan

Calculating 4th Axis SPU:

Example:
Motor: 200 steps
Micro step: 8...32
Degrees per rotation: 360 degrees

SPU: (200*32)/360=17

but i think that the data that you provided "480 Steps / °" is already SPU(@ 1/16 micro step probably). Please check that.

In settings set machine type as:

Settings/General/Machine Type -> Rotary ABC
Settings/Axes/Number of axes -> 4 ; Axis 4 -> A
Settings/Axes/Setup -> insert SPU for A
Settings/Speed/Speed Calculation -> Linear Axes with rotation

If you use limit switch you set them the same as for other axes (the procedure)

Hi,

I have followed these steps for a 4th rotational axis and set the steps per unit and all seems to be working fine.
I used the Axis SPU Calibration to move the motor 180, and adjusted until I saw it moved one half rotation.

However in MDI, if I type G0 A180 (for a half turn) it spins forever...I dont understand why these gcodes doest work ? I waited for it to maybe stop, but it was at (A axis ) -22940 so i stopped it.

Do I need to home it or set some softlimits ?

the limit stuff didnt work, but as soon as I removed

Settings/Speed/Speed Calculation -> Linear Axes with rotation

and just use All axes, everything works as it should.

Thanks
