DYI Keypad

Is it possible to input the jog movement via "MDI shortcut"?

When you click+hold the large arrows on the jog (via GUI), the axes move until the mouse button is released, and, each click on the smaller arrows perform a step move. I am trying to do this via a DIY keypad, using the "MDI Shortcut".
My idea is to create an external Jog (Keypad), using an arduino, one keypad and one display, connected via USB

Any help or advise will be welcome.

Yes, you can use this concept for much more than just movement and jogging:
