Pendant Z axis and x100 multiplier functionality

Postby HobbyCAD » 20 Jul 2016, 11:24

I need help with getting my pendant z-axis to work. I don’t care about X and Y, I need the Z adjustment for manual tool setting.
I understand most of the 100PPR pendants are wired as per the last schematic on the PlanetCNC Blog page http://planet-cnc.com/how-to-connect-an ... g-pendant/. The axis and multiple switches are simple grounding of one pin at a time, X, Y or Z, and x1, x10 or x100, to ground.
The Mk3 CTRL connection shows pins 7 for AX1 (X), 9 for AX2(Y), 10 for AX3 (Z), 3 for MD1 (x1), 5 for MD2 (x10) and 8 for MD3 (x100). To get X to jog, you ground AX1 pin 7, for Y you ground AX2 pin 9, but to get Z to jog you need to ground AX1 and AX2 together, not AX3. Same for MD3, it’s not grounding pin 8 to get MD3, you need to ground MD1 and MD2 together to get MD3 x100 to work. Why does the Mk3 card CTRL connector then have pin-10 for AX3 and pin-8 for MD3, if I have to join pins 7 and 9 to get the AX3 to function, and join pin 3 and 5 to get MD3 to function? Why cannot I simply connect AX3 to pin 10 and MD3 to pin 8? Are the inputs 8 and 10 not working on the Mk3 card, or is the software not working as per the control connector inputs?
If this 01, 10, 11 switch logic is the only way to get the Z-axis and x100 multiplier to work, how does one have to modify the switches inside of a standard pendant, or does it have to have some or other PCB inside converting the simply 3 separate pin grounding to a BCD output?
Has anyone found a way to convert a stock 100PPR pendant to get this 01, 10, 11 output logic out of the X and Y, and x1 and x10 connections?

Cheers,

Francois

Solved the issue by adding 4 diodes into the circuit.

Great, nice solution. You can post pictures of your MPG when finished.
