Fixed vs Movable tool size sensor

Postby evgeninikolov » 11 Sep 2013, 06:33

Well, the subject says it all - does one need both? What are the benefits of each?

Can you recommend a cheap and good one?

Can I use PCB for fixed?

Are any other options for movable apart from PCB and are they better than PCB?

I suggest you use moveable for measuring material top turface (offset Z) and fixed for measuring tool offset.
There are a lot of options what you can use. PCB is one of them.

Can I use the moveable for for both? Or is there a big disadvantage apart from needing to move it always?

Moveable does not have known position. You can use it to measure "one thing" such as material top surface. But if you change tools you need to measure "two things". Difference between tool1 and tool 2 is needed ond for this you need known reference. Fixed sensor is at known position and can be used as reference.

Yes, but the movable could be placed to a known position, isn't it?

Yes, but if it is at know position it is no longer movable. It is at known position therefore it is fixed.

So, basically it is neccecity to have both of them?

It is not necessary.
On my BF46 I usally don't use sensors at all. On big router I use both of them.
